One of my favorite methods to work with is the wood block print, and in this exhibition, Impressions, I use the process of printing to explore how repetition, reversal, mirroring, and pattern can evolve into new interpretations of visual elements. In the series, Under the Western Cedars, I use separate images – a boulder, cedar trees, branch details - and compile them in varying combinations, finding new color layers and compositions as I go. Each print is a one-of-a-kind piece. In the larger works, titled, Of a Certain Place, I begin with a specific scene carved into a wood block. This composition is rotated, reversed, and repeated through screen printing, onto large rolls of paper to create abstracted all-encompassing patterned pieces. The work in this show was created in 2025 and is just the beginning of what I hope will be an ongoing project.
